My favorite Apple features that you never really notice

Many people talk about the big obvious features on Apple products and the next amazing thing that’s about to launch, but I thought I’d point out a few of my favorite features that just disappear over time.

Touch ID

When this first came out, it was just a bit too slow and not many companies had integrated it into their apps. But now, it is blazingly fast and many apps now support it, especially those that are health, finance, or security related. It’s so fast, you don’t even think about it and don’t really notice it. You have to go out of your way not to use it, like when you want to just view the lock screen notifications and not unlock your phone.

Apple Watch unlock

This relates to Touch ID, but basically if you are wearing your Apple Watch and then unlock your phone, it also unlocks the watch. This means you effectively never have to type in the code to unlock the watch. This is something you will never notice, since there is a very high likelihood that you will unlock your phone before you use a feature on your watch. Again, something you will never see because it just happens without you having to do anything.

LEDs that disappear

There are many LEDs on Apple devices like the one next to the camera on MacBooks to the one on the wireless keyboard to the “breathing” light on laptops, but when they are not being used they disappear into the aluminum casing. This is more of an aesthetic thing, but I love how it makes Apple products look so clean. This is also why I like space gray iPhones, because the front plate is black and when the screen is off, it becomes a clean black surface.
